MaxiDive completed Propeller Polishing Thailand service for a commercial vessel at Laem Chabang Port. The project focused on underwater propeller polishing, blade surface condition improvement and technical documentation of the propeller assembly while the vessel remained afloat.

The operation was carried out by MaxiDive’s commercial diving team using an HD 4K underwater video system and hydraulic polishing tools. Due to limited underwater visibility, the work required close-range visual control, careful tool handling and detailed photo/video documentation for the vessel’s technical team.

Propeller Polishing Thailand Scope

The scope focused on the propeller assembly, including the propeller blades, hub, boss area, stern tube area, rope guard and seal plug condition. Before polishing, the propeller blades, hub and boss were covered by soft and hard marine growth.

The operation included:

  • Underwater propeller inspection

  • Soft and hard marine growth removal

  • Hydraulic propeller polishing

  • Rubert Scale surface roughness documentation

  • Blade condition documentation

  • Rope guard area check

  • Stern tube and seal plug visual confirmation

  • Underwater photo and video reporting

Rubert Scale Propeller Polishing Result

Before polishing, the propeller surface roughness was measured at Rubert Scale grade D. MaxiDive carried out polishing using hydraulic tools and polishing discs to improve the blade surface condition.

Upon completion, the average blade surface roughness was improved to Rubert Scale grade A, equivalent to approximately 1 micron CLA.

This improvement supports smoother propeller blade surfaces and helps reduce unnecessary resistance caused by marine growth and surface roughness. For vessel operators, regular underwater propeller polishing is an important part of ship husbandry and underwater maintenance.

Propeller Blade Condition Documentation

During the underwater work, MaxiDive documented the condition of the propeller blades and surrounding components. A minor contact damage affecting one blade near the leading edge close to the tip was recorded for technical review.

The finding was documented with underwater photo and video records, allowing the vessel’s management team to review the condition and plan any further action if required.

Rope Guard and Stern Tube Area

The stern tube area was visually checked and found free from structural abnormalities. The rope guard area was inspected and confirmed free from entanglement after the diving team removed material from the area.

All visible seal plugs were documented as secure and fastened in place, with no abnormalities noted during the underwater inspection.

Technical Value for Vessel Managers

Propeller polishing is not only a cleaning task. It also provides valuable underwater condition information for vessel managers, technical superintendents and marine operators.

The combination of polishing, Rubert Scale documentation and close-up video inspection helps support:

  • Propeller performance review

  • Maintenance planning

  • Underwater condition monitoring

  • Ship husbandry records

  • Operational decision-making without dry docking

Commercial Diving Services at Laem Chabang Port

Laem Chabang Port is one of Thailand’s key commercial shipping locations. MaxiDive regularly supports vessels in this area with propeller polishing, underwater inspection, hull cleaning, sea chest cleaning, rope removal, underwater maintenance and emergency underwater repair.

MaxiDive provides professional commercial diving services in Thailand for shipowners, vessel managers, port agents and marine operators requiring reliable underwater ship services and technical reporting.
