Project Overview

MaxiDive successfully completed an in-water survey in Thailand under ABS Class supervision at a major Thai port. The operation was performed by a certified commercial diving team using professional underwater inspection equipment and high-resolution camera systems.

The survey was conducted in moderate sea conditions with limited underwater visibility of approximately 1 meter, requiring precise diver control and systematic inspection procedures.

Scope of Underwater Inspection

The inspection scope included a full external assessment of the vessel’s underwater structure:

  • Hull plating condition evaluation

  • Inspection of appendages and sea connections

  • Propeller and rudder assessment

  • Verification of structural integrity

  • Marine growth condition analysis

inspection activities were documented using underwater photo and video recording systems in accordance with class requirements.

Hull Condition Findings

The hull was found to be heavily covered with marine growth, including:

  • Hard marine growth (barnacles and oysters)

  • Soft marine growth (slime layer)

Signs of coating wear were observed, particularly in areas exposed to operational stress such as the bow region.

Despite marine growth presence, the structural condition of the hull remained satisfactory:

  • No structural damage detected

  • No defective weld seams identified

  • No anomalies affecting vessel integrity

Appendages Inspection Results

The inspection of appendages revealed:

  • Bilge keels significantly covered by marine growth

  • Echo sounder confirmed in good condition

  • Speed log area intact, with partial coating loss around the sensor zone

  • Sea gratings secure with no movement or damage

  • Overboard discharges operating normally

  • Sacrificial anodes approximately 25% depleted

All sea connections were verified to be secure and free from leakage.

Propeller and Rudder Assessment

Propeller Condition:

  • 40–60% coverage by hard marine growth

  • Additional soft growth layer present

  • Minor cavitation marks detected on blade leading edge

  • No structural deformation or damage

Rudder Condition:

  • Heavy marine growth coverage observed

  • Structural integrity maintained

  • No critical defects detected

Operational Challenges

The project was carried out under limited underwater visibility conditions, which required:

  • Enhanced diver coordination

  • Controlled inspection sequences

  • Continuous surface-diver communication

Despite environmental constraints, the inspection was completed efficiently and in full compliance with class standards.

Conclusion

The in-water survey confirmed that the vessel’s underwater structure remains in operational condition, with no critical defects detected.

However, the presence of significant marine growth indicates the need for:

  • Hull cleaning

  • Preventive maintenance

  • Coating system evaluation

MaxiDive recommends scheduling follow-up maintenance to ensure optimal vessel performance and fuel efficiency.
